This is what I was thinking, too. Check to see if you were winding the bobbin correctly. I have been sewing for 40+ years, and when I bought my new quilting machine, I looked at the diagram for threading, but never thought to look at the way to wind bobbins, I just jumped right in. My first two bobbins were OK, I guess, but the third one came out looking like this one. That is when I learned that this machine threads in reverse of all of my others. The thread winds off the bottom of the spool! You have to thread it a certain way to wind bobbins! I hope it is a cheap fix for you too!

Watch your bobbin as it winds to make sure it is making the full wind from top to bottom of the bobbin, wind slow to decrease tension. Sounds also like you had a birds nest waiting to happen- check tension top and botton- be sure you are using at least a coats and clark thread to avoid messes

Can happen when the thread is not wound properly.

No idea how the thread became broken, but my mother learned from her sewing machine repairman that bobbins "wear". He suggested periodically replacing all the bobbins because they get wear-marks and no longer perform as well.

Ditto--It was too loose. So glad you got it out.

I've had that happen too. Bobbin was not wound tight.

I have the same machine, and yes it appears to be due to poor bobbin winding. I found my bobbin doesn't make good contact with the spring at the top of the spindle when winding so it spins a little unevenly. I put a small washer under the bobbin to raise it and it's fine. Tried felt but the lint snagged in the bobbin thread. Until I figured it out I used a separate bobbin winder, and no more problems. Also- the machine is Very sensitive to lint, so remove the entire cover plate and bobbin holder and clean behind and underneath OFTEN. Be Sure to put a mark on the front of the bobbin holder before removal so you know the exact positioning to replace it. It's not clear in the manual. I have a lot of newish Coats and Clark thread to use up before I start buying anything else.

I've had the bobbin break apart and cause a big wadded mess but have never seen the thread cut like that?
