I have an adorable nephew, four months old. I wanted to make him a quilt and fell in love with the tumbling blocks pattern. The quilt top is complete but I'm not sure which backing fabric to use!

I had read numerous suggestions to use muslin as a backing and I really like the fabric. However, it's really light colored and I know my nephew is going to drool all over it. Is the fabric too light colored for a baby and then a toddler? I want this to be a "use" quilt, not just one for show in his crib. Hopefully he'll look back on it fondly and remember his dear auntie who made it for him!

I have just enough leftover train fabric that I could use that as the backing. It's really busy but it would hide my quilting mistakes. This will be my first attempt at quilting, as my other two quilts were tied. Which is the better option? If you could help me decide, I'd really appreciate it!

I would go with the train fabric if you can. Not just from the quilting standpoint but the dirt factor. I love your tumbling blocks, by the way. Great job!

Firstly, what a fantastic job you have done....very cool little quilt. Secondly, yes I agree, the train fabric will make a great backing...will hide lots! Black binding would look really good too.

What a gorgeous cat....Where I am from in England (now transplanted in Aus.) black cats are considered lucky.

Dark fabrics show drool better. Busy fabrics hide drool pretty good.

I thought the cat was part of the quilt. LOL. Maybe it's a lil to early in the morning for me. This is a beautiful quilt. Don't use the muslin. Train fabric would be beautiful. great job
