That would be way under priced. You should try to time yourself. Starting with all the cutting and ironing you put into it. Then to do all the sewing. Even though its a simple pattern, it still takes time. You time is worth so much more than $50-75 (plus materials). That's just crazy. Way, way, underpriced. You would be jipping yourself.

I have never made a quilt for sale and probably never will. I either keep them or give them away. I just tell people that I do not sell my quilts. Simplifies the problem. I do refer them to friends who do make quilts for a fee if they are persistent.

Several months ago I did some serious calculating about materials and time and came up with a figure of 19 cents a square inch. That may not sound like much, but for a moderate lap quilt of 48 x 56 inches it comes to $ 510.00. If this is a good friend you can adjust the amount you charge for your time. My figure is if you were doing it as a business.

When someone asks me what I would charge to make a quilt for them, I tell them one million dollars. So far I've had no takers! HaHa! It might be nice to get some extra $$$, but I don't want any pressure. I would be stressed out that I wasn't doing a good enough job or I wasn't getting it done fast enough. Prefer to go at my own pace. I have gifted quilts and made charity quilts, but have many that I still want to make just for me.
