The Wal Marche' here in Surprise AZ is being remodeled as I write and they enlarged the fabric dept!!. I was told by an employee of Hobby Lobby that they are going to buy out Joanns in the future. I used to buy all my fabric at Wal Marche because it was cheaper than Joanns but not anymore. I shop a good deal on the internet and find that if I watch different links I can usually find good material at less cost that any local Quilt Shop. I just start surfing and can most times find good bargains. Our NEW Super Wal Marche did not include a Fabric dept so I rarely buy from WM. I think they want us to buy blankets instead of quilting. So much for the tried and true methods of yesteryear!!!

I work at Walmart and they tell us that keeping the fabric is based on the stores sales. They gave a list to us this year of all the stores getting rid of the fabric and we were not on it. I do not know how often they update that list. But we remodel in August and am hoping they will still keep the fabric. We are they only store in our area that has it now. We have people coming from over an hour away to get fabric!

I used to buy lots of fabric at wally world, but that was back when I was traveling to cat shows as a vendor and was making cat beds and toys. Used to rack up the $$ then when I stocked up, maybe since I quit I caused them to close up shop?? LOL!! I miss having the fabrics there, but now I just go to Hobby Lobby and get fabric and yarn. Only complaint I have there is their selection of knitting needles is awful.

I buy character fabric in my WalMart for baby quilts. Disney....Dora....and Sponge Bob to name a few.....and I don't see the fabric anywhere else.

" I've been too busy buying fabric at Ace Hardware/Ben Franklins in Raymond, NH (yes, a craft store withing a hardware store) "

OH wow this sounds pretty close to heaven to me. I love hardware stores almost as much as fabric stores.lol
No Walmart near me still sells fabric.

What a great idea! Send the husband off to his side of the store while we can go to our side and buy fabric!
Oh I wish we had one of those Ace Hardware/Ben Franklins combos. All the Ben Franklins in my area closed.

I never NEED fabric when I go check to see what they might have on sale..lol I go to las vegas every couple weeks and on my way out sunday I stopped in the walmart close to teh freeway just to see what they might have...yep 31.00 dollars later I came outta there w/ almost 10 yds of assorted pieces, all at least 1yd each. You have to be careful at walmart some of the stuff they have on sale is very thin, no matter how cute I won't buy it.
