Petitioning WM to keep the fabric depts just does not work - as they were, literally, carrying out the fabric from our WM there were several of us standing there just shaking our heads in ubbelief. The workers were making comments about how crazy WM is for letting it go. I never go there anymore - I used to shop for other things when I went in (weekly) to shop for fabric. They not only lost the fabric money I spent but also the other... oh well. Our LQS is happy!!

Me too. I used to do all my grocery, clothing for my grandkids shopping there PLUS buy fabric.
Now I go to stores closer to me that also unfortunately don't have fabric and spend my money there. I save gas now too. Whoever is running Walmart now has made their stores clones of all the other discount stores. There's nothing different there now....it used to be the only one that carried fabric and I made special trips especially for that.
Now I haven't been to a Walmart for 6 mos or more. No reason to go.
Sadly they don't care. They'll make up the difference in hunting, automobile, etc stuff that they've expanded into the fabric area.

I live near a small town and we noticed that the large Wal Marts in the area had dropped fabric. We asked manager if our store would continue to carry as there is no other store with fabric within 25 miles. He assured us he would keep it. A few months later they remodeled our store and the fabric disappeared with no notice and no sale.

When I moved to GA 2 years ago, all three Wal Marts in my area had fabric. The last one lost its fabric dept. May 1. I am so steamed. There is a nice Hobby Lobby nearby, with beautiful fabric and good prices, thank heaven. I hate to give JoAnn my money. The manager at WalMart was selling hundreds of dollars worth an hour most days, so who knows what the rationale is. I just better not run out of anything on Sunday!!

Sounds like a great time. However, yes, All Walmarts will be doing away with their fabric departments in order to make room for their enlarged electronics department. It's a corporate decision and eventually all Walmarts will be without fabric. My local Walmarts are almost through with the 'transformation', in another month all will be gone from the fabric department. Sad, but true.
    Kind Regards,

That is what happened to us. Can't even get a decent spool of thread, all they have now is .24 per spool!

I think Walmart did me a favor. I go there a lot less since the fabric isn't there and I spend more at the LQS and less on the groceries and misc I picked up at Wallyworld when I checked on fabric. What a win win situation. There is one with fabric in the area but the selection is not that great.

I guess I always have had a grudge against stores like Walmart, when I see local stores in small towns going out of business right and left.........

MaryAnna is telling you all the truth! ALL fabric WILL be eliminated from the Stores in time. It has been in their plan for over 2 years. They are not telling the Mgrs in all of the Stores & if they are, the Mgrs are not telling the salesclerks & help. Petitions, calling, emails, will not save your fabric departments. When it is time for them to go, they will go. A friend of mine's DH got this straight from a meeting in Ark. a couple of yrs ago and it hasn't changed.
