I love my Berninas. I have two....one I found out is 40 years old (730 Record) and I just purchased another model...(1000). Both were purchased used...the first was through a private seller and the other through a sewing store.
The older model I purchased maybe about 25 years ago but a couple of months ago, I suspected that maybe she might be close to her end days as she refused to start when I pressed the foot pedal. Yes, I did unplug her and plugged into another outlet just so that I was sure that it was her and not the outlet as well as didn't want to look foolish if she worked at the repair shop but still she wouldn't run. Naturally took her down to the dealership to get her fixed and looked awfully stupid when they pugged her in and she ran just fine.
Anyway, I found that it's very difficult to find used Bernina's here and so when they are available....buy it NOW!!!

I just picked up my Bernina 440QE last night. I traded my 600 Nova for it that I bought in 1975 still running perfectly. I also have a 1080 bought in 1991. I love Bernina, I just wanted the stitch regulator and the knee lift and the needle threader. Grandma too.

I am so sorry you had such a bad exp with the singer. I have one and have had no problems with it. I have been doing fmq etc and have not had one issue. Not even with the feed dogs. Glad you were able to get another machine.

I'm so delighted every time I hear of someone getting a new machine...and double delighted when I hear it's a Bernina, since that's "my girl's" make also. You will love, love, LOVE it! :P
