We just came back from the funeral for my niece. She was a single parent for five adopted children. The children will be split up because no one can take on all 5 - 2 to her sister, 1 to a cousin, and 2 to a close family friend. I want to make a wall hanging for each of the families so the children have something to remind them of her. My idea is to print a recent picture on cloth of Kathy and her five children as the center of the hanging. Then quilt something in her favorite colors or even using some of her favorite clothes as the fabrics for the wall hanging. Has anyone done this before or do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance because I know you will have some great ideas.

No suggestions, but how wonderful that her family and freinds are stepping up to take these children.

    I'm sorry for your loss...
Recently I posted here a photo of a bunch of kitties I made as memorial pieces for my dad...small stuffed animals made of his flannel shirts....this might be something the children would love..

This is terribly sad. I am very sorry for your loss.

A photo of her might be too distressing for one or more of the children. If you make something in her favourite colours or from her clothes, put a dab of her perfume on the back so the extra special memory will come through subconsciously and without the risk of upsetting them with a photo. People vary. I have had three close bereavements and I find photos unbearable.

So sorry for your loss. It is wonderful that the family is giving the children homes. That is so sad for the kids. Your idea is a good one, but not too soon. Give them a chance to settle into their new homes. If you are making 3 quilts, I imagine that it will take you awhile. That's good.
