A friend is moving into a new home in early January. I would like to make her a quilt as a house-warming gift. I haven't got a lot of experience making full-sized quilts. I want to do a quilt rather than a wall hanging.
I have an idea about what colors to use but I need a pattern ....something that will go together quickly as I still have to finish Xmas sewing. Would appreciate some ideas. Photos or links would be great! I have googled and found lots of patterns but I thought I would also ask here.

Single Irish Chain is basically 9 patch blocks alternating with solid blocks. I think it's an attractive pattern and should be one that you can do in the time allotted.

Do you have an idea of the fabrics you're using? Sometimes the fabric dictates the pattern choice. To save time, maybe a precut -- charms, layer cake, jelly roll-- might be a good solution. The moda bakeshop has lots of quick and easy patterns particularly well-suited to pre-cuts.

One I find easy and quick, yet popular, is a pattern called Five and Dimes. Using 12 fat quarters and a coordinating print, you get a nice generous sized throw. The tagline is 5 minutes to select fabrics, 10 minutes to cut, and 15 to layout. It really is one that's doable in a day.

If you're wanting something quick and easy, consider Rail Fence. Do a Google image search and look at all the different looks you can create, just by the way you turn the blocks!

One concern: Are you sure your friend will welcome a bed-size quilt? They tend to dictate the room's decor, so unless you know what style and colors she wants in the room, I'd stick with a lap-size quilt.
