    Hello,
Another newbie question. I noticed some say they scan their fabric and others say take pictures. Which is better?
I want to start a fabric library and wanted to know if I should invest in a scanner or a really good digital camera.
    Thanks :D

I take a digital picture of my pics and have various folders for the different type of fabrics.

Even if I sell or use up my fabric, I still keep the picture, but put it in the GONE folder. Many times I refer back to pictures of fabric that I once had.

I have learned the hard way. I scan but may I suggest the Kodak printer scanner. The ink is soooooo much cheaper and it is easy to use. But you can put your little card in front and print pics too.

People are always selling and giving away printer/copier/scanners on freecycle in my town...you might check to see if you can get one that way. It would be a cheap way to get started. If you just used it for the scanning purposes, it would work out for free.

If it is one or the other, I choose camera. You can take pictures of your fabric, and it is helpful to take pictures of your layouts, too.
You can usually find misplaced blocks easier in a picture, or blocks that have pieces turned the wrong way too LOL It has saved my bacon more than once :D:D:D

If you can only choose one, I would think a camera would be the way to go. You can take a picture of a whole finished quilt, which cannot be done with a scanner.

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your responses. I decided to buy a digital camera. I found a nice Panasonic for a resonable price. Now I can get my fabric organized. :D
