I am a bit of a purple person too. I think I have it narrowed down to navy blue, royal blue, and purple. Each with white. Step by step, huh. I googled two colored quilts, and many wonderful quilts came up. Then Peggy sent me the really good visual. I am going to try to print both the ones she sent.

to help you visualize blocks in different colors- buy some colored pencils- and graph paper- sketch out the block and color it-in the colors you are thinking about using-
there are web sites (like Paperpieces.com) that have free 'downloadable' design sheets just for that purpose- so you can color and try out different colors/layouts before purchasing or cutting your fabrics. really helps sometimes

I think when the rail is set like this it's called the Roman Stripe (remember reading that in a book somewhere) and I think this pattern is perfect for 2 colors and perfect for an advanced beginner. 9-patch is one of my FAVORITE patterns. The tricky part is the setting triangles and as long as you get good measurements and are careful handling the bias edges, you will do just fine.

I's a Warm Wishes with the 9Patch where the focus fabric would normally be.
I saw some made up with fabric not too long ago on the web ... not sure if it was here on the Boardor elsewhere, though!

So you might want to ask Mr. Google ... and he usually delivers what you want!

You could also do a black and white, with the center sqauare of the nine-patch in Red or Turquoise or Peach. That might add a touch of pizzaz to accent your room.

Quilt long gone, but yes I did this in Black and White. I did add one strip of Bright Green down in the corner, by the bottom. I loved it so much after it was finished, did 3 more for sibs. Still don't have one for myself, but YES easy for beginner and fun for all.
