oil wick?

oil wick?
I have a Janome 6500. I was cleaning out the dust in the bobbin area last nite. And now I was changing bobbins and noticed the oil wick is missing. Will it be ok without one , or do I need to go to the sewing shop to get another?

I think that you'll need to get another one. My Janome 6500 needs oil dropped in this wick every little while. If it dries out (or missing in your case) the bobbin rattles, bangs and finally literally jumps out of place. This clattering and jumping makes it impossible to sew. Somebody must have thought it was lint and pulled it out. Your machine will need its wick and oil to run properly.

I did the same thing with my 7700 the first time I cleaned it thoroughly! Unfortunately I didn't realize what it was til it was all thrown away. I haven't asked my dealer about it yet, but I did put a small piece of felt back in there--I balled it up tiny and stuck it in there. What is the wick made out of? Does anyone know?

You really need to get a new wick, asap. The purpose of the wick is to conduct oil into a place which needs to stay lubricated, but is hard or impossible to reach to oil by hand. Then you can just oil the easy-to-reach end of the wick to do the job.
