I also like #2. I Like the layout better with the white diagonal.

I like the 2nd one best. I think the little white blocks look great running diagonally thru the top.

I like the 2nd one. Like how the small white blocks are lining up.

I like layout 2 as I think the ‘increased’ Black makes the colours pop more.

The second reads more black and white, so the colors pop the most! I also like the first one if you wish the quilt to read more white. Both lovely. Make more blocks and then take a photo and see what you think.

#2 looks quite complicated so I like it best.

While they both look great, I too prefer #2. Layout #1 appears to be scrappy with the consistent feature the diagonal of random color while layout #2 as zozee commented appears to be a Black and White Quilt with pops of color. I see in #2 a diagonal of White accentuated by alternating Black and Color. Always interesting to see what rearranging the blocks will do!! Both will look great!!

I like them both and think either will make a very striking quilt. However, I do think the black in the second one, set as you have done it, make the color patches pop out to make a 'nice statement'. I do think when you have more blocks to arrange that your best choice will become more apparent.

Once you get more blocks added, you will find that the black blocks will make diagonal lines and so will the white, no matter which way they go. I would make many more blocks and then lay it out and take a picture. Probably won't make too much difference.
