Default Our fun new Bee challenge

My bee came up with a new idea for a monthly challenge. Thought I would pass it on for those that are looking for new ideas. At least I think it's new, new to me. One person a month provides each member with a 10" square focus fabric. There are 16-18 of us. Each person then makes a block with that coordinating fabric in their own pattern, adding whatever fabrics in their stash that work. Whatever size the chosen one wants. Though we have limited it to 12.5 inches max. The next month, all the blocks are shown and given back to the original owner and another person is chosen. So every month, someone has enough sampler blocks to make a quilt. All coordinated and made by friends.

This is similar to the Boomerang swap.

We did this once in a group of 12 people. The only problem was that there are always one or two people that do not match colors very well. I tried not to be too fussy but a couple of blocks were "Out there" if you know what I mean. Our group (of 10) is doing the shoebox quilt. Where you provide 2 yards focus fabric and (3) 1 yard coordinates. Put them in a box with your name on it and give it to a member of you group--- from there they make a block and pass it on.. When all the friends in your group have made a block it they will all come back to you for completion. This way you get all the colors you love- because you choose them.

You are right fallonquilter about some "matches" are way out there. Since most of our ladies work out of their stash, some are old, some are new, it's truly a box of chocolates.
