I am trying to do a paper pieced pattern and am using regular computer paper for it but the lines barely show through, which makes it hard to place the fabric. What do you experienced quilters use? I am new at paper piecing.

I use tracing paper. I made a mistake and bought the 9x12, so I have to cut off 1/2" for it to go through my printer, but that's easy with the rotary cutter.

I use Carol Doak's foundation paper (100 page pkgs. are on sale at Connecting Threads right now) I love the stuff.

Foundation paper will give you less headache. You will regret using printer paper when it's time to tear it out - it's strong, and may rip out your stitching. And you'll need tweezers to get the tiny pieces out.
Being frugal, I have cut old clothes patters down to approximately printer size and tape it to a sheet, then print on it.

As for seeing the lines, you just have to cut the fabric bigger than you think you need. Buy extra fabric when doing paper piecing.

I use newsprint, either roll ends I buy from the newspaper or childs tablets from the Dollar store. I've also used tissue paper, the nice thing about using it is you don't have to remove it. It will dissolve when the quilt is washed.

I use printer paper but I shorten my stitch length so that the paper has more holes and is easier to tear away. I also use a tie off stitch at the beginning and end of each line stitched. the stitches don't tear out when I remove the paper.

I also use the Carol Doak's paper. When I use regular printer paper, it takes more effort to rip it off and possibly loosen the stitching on the ends.

I put a light on my sewing table and hold the paper up to the light you can see through it easily and place you fabric so you get it in the right spot.

I also prefer to use Carol Doaks PPing paper when I PP. It is thinner and tears so much easier than copy paper. It especially good when you are doing small pieces. I have always found the copy paper loosens the stitching as it is being torn because of the thickness of it and it is harder to remove. It goes right through the copier with no problem. I find I get a better finished block.

When I make spiderweb or string piecing blocks I will use copy paper. The blocks are bigger and there is less fussy tearing.

EDIT: your post says the lines barely show through. The lined side of the paper should face you when you are working.

I too prefer Carol Doak's paper. I bought some vellum for comparison but didn't
like it at all. You can't fold it precisely like the Carol Doak's paper.
