In 1900 Thomas Copeland is married to Eva and has 4 children, Charles, Rosie, Nettie and Luther. Luke is shown as Luther in one tree, so Abie/Alcie Coplin could be Rosa's niece.

Connie, where did you find the Coplin marriage?

Granny Coplin is probably Eve Copeland, died in 1939 as Evie Coplin. Her husband Tom S died in 1924, listed as Copeland. One son, Luke Coplin died in 1971.

My mother was born and raised in Paris, and met my father there. If she were still alive (she died last May), I suspect she would recognize a lot of those names, or her sister might. I may run the list by my father, and see if he recognizes any of the names, but he only lived there for a few years. More likely, my aunt, who now lives in Sulfur Springs, might know some of the names. I can have my father ask her next time he talks to her.

As far as the fountain, one of my favorite pictures is one of my parents in front of the fountain in 1950, the year they got married. On their 50th anniversary, they took a picture at the same spot, in the same poses. I have them in a dual frame.

I would love it if you could post your parents pictures here.. As the big fountain is probably something most visitors to Paris do see. It's a wonderful fountain in the very heart of downtown Paris...
    Blessings all........

    1930 United States Federal Census
    about Luke C Coplin
Home in 1930: Precinct 2, Lamar, Texas
    Age: 37
    Estimated Birth Year: abt 1893
    Birthplace: Tennessee
Relation to Head of House: Head
    Spouse's Name: Ela Coplin
    Race: White
    Household Members: Name Age
    Luke C Coplin 37
    Ela Coplin 33
    Abie Coplin 14
    Evelyn Coplin 10
    Helen Coplin 8
    Jack Coplin 1

My guess is that this was a friendship quilt for Abie/Alcie Coplin/Copeland. A friend tells me that girls would get together and each would learn to make their own quilt have their friends and relatives sign a square or she would even write them in and then embroider them. If they needed more names they would go ahead and duplicate names.

One square says Aunt Rosa, and Rosa Siddle was Lukes sister. Another has just Evelyn and one of her sisters is named Evelyn. Mother could be Ela and Granny Coplin could be Eve Copeland, or Evie as another block was signed. That how she is listed on a tree by Tommies granddaughter. Im waiting to hear back from her. Tommie would be her cousin.
