I have a Pfaff 7570 with embroidery unit that is a superior machine. I have had a Pfaff 2560 I couldn't get rid of fast enough. Engineered in Germany but manufactured in Czechoslovakia, if I misspelled, so sorry. Mostly plastic parts and couldn't keep it running. I sold it on Ebay. Took a loss but was glad it was gone. I used that money to help pay for a Janome Horizon. The older Pfaffs are great, the new ones are made by the same company that makes the Singer, Kenmore, etc. Just isn't the same quality.

My recommendation is to go with the Janome, but I would suggest you try to get one from a dealer so you have the waranty. I'm very happy with my Horizon. Lots of non-metal parts, but I haven't had the multiple failures I experienced with the Pfaff 2560.

Both of those machines sound a little high to me, especially as they are used, out of warranty, and offer no shop support. I got my Janome about 2 years ago and only paid about 1300.

I have an old Hobymatic Pfaff and it has been reliable... however, I just bought a Janome 6600p and am soooo excited with all it's features and how smooth she runs!

I, too, did a lot of homework before purchasing my new Janome and one of the important issues was service and lessons. My Janome dealer is less than15 miles but a Pfaff dealer is about 2 hours travel time.

good luck! I'm sure you'll be happy with either one.

Pfaff. I think you will like Pfaff more than the Janome

I don't know much about the Janome, but I have a Pfaff QE4 and love it. That price is amazing and if you can get it for even less, I can't see how you would ever regret it. I have been sewing on Pfaffs for over 25 years and my first one is still going strong!

If your not in a big hurry to purchase this item why not wait until you find one in an Estate Sale for much less. I pasted on a Pfaff 405 last weekend and they wanted $150.00 but it neeed a disc. I know that I'm going to regret that decision for a long time.

I'd go with the Janome, but from a good dealer. My daughter got the same model last summer from our LQS for about $1200 brand new, and LOVES it for quilting and other sewing too.
