Default Proper Paper for Iron-on Transfers

What type of paper can one use for creating an iron-on transfer? I know there are special wax-free papers, but I'm thinking standard printer paper would work too.

My thoughts are to use an iron-on pen (Eg. Sulky brand) to transfer my design onto printer paper and then heat transfer the design onto my fabric.

    Thanks for your comments!

Parchment would be great for this. It's non-stick and safe for irons. It's the same stuff that backs fusible web, and is cheap and easy to get at any grocery store.

I have been using the Frixxion pens when I want a design transferred to fabric.
Yes, it means that I have to trace the design over a light box, but I don't find that to laborious.

On the upside, the Frixxion is not permanent like many of the other options.
It disappears with heat (iron, hair dryer, clothes dryer).
