    Default questions about sewing table

I have been thinking about getting folding adjustable leg 2' by 4' tables to sew on. When folded they are 2' x 2'.

Do any of you use these?
    Are they sturdy enough?

There are a couple of YouTube videos of them, showing how to add foam insulation sheets to make them into quilting tables. I really want try FMQing so this is kinda intriguing to me.

    Any and all opinions please

Marguerite MacManus recently presented and taught for my quilt guild and she showed her table. It was nice.

This works and is inexpensive and easily put away if necessary. I would suggest you get 2-3 tables. One for the overflow when chain stitching or quilting and the other for any extra room. As you mention they don't take much room when folded.

I still prefer my cabinet though I do have the 4' x 2' tables to extend my quilting/sewing areas.

I sometimes put my serger on my cutting table, which is one of these tables- it bounces way too much for me to use it there. I suppose you could do the same thing with the foam, but use a desk or a more sturdy base to stop the table from moving. Part of the enjoyment in sewing and quilting for me is doing it in a nice atmosphere. This setup seems untidy to me, and I think I would be catching my quilt on the hanging vinyl cover and pulling it.

I still use the sewing desk that I got for a graduation present in 1970. Now a Bernina sits in the well. Just make sure it is the correct height for you. Eleanor Burns had a repeat show last Saturday on my local PBS station that showed how you can take any table and make it into a sewing table with a built in bed for your sewing machine.

Thank you for your replies. I have several ideas and now just to choose which I think will work best for me.

Thank you all for your opinions.

I don't recommend using a folding table for sewing...the sewing machine will bounce around when at a higher speed. Plus they can sometimes fall easier than a regular table. Just my opinion...

I have the white 6 foot plastic table where the legs can fold in, but the top itself is one piece. It is very sturdy, and I am very happy with it. It stays up all the time, as I do not store it.

I have two of the folding tables but I only use them for cutting fabric. Bed risers make them a good height for that. Too bouncy for a sewing machine.

Thank you for your opinions on the folding table. I'm going to keep them all in mind while deciding which way to go.

    Thanks again!
