When you use clear monofiliment thread, do you use clear monofiliment in the bobbin? Or cotton thread? Or something else?

I use my regular quilting thread in the bobbin.

The monofilament does not like to be wound on the bobbin. (It can be done but very slowly so it doesn't stretch)

I use regular cotton thread on the bottom.

Have any of you had problems with the clear monofiliment breaking while you are quilting? I haven't been able to successfully use it.

Also, I have a fear that if I did use it to quilt a whole quilt, if the thread broke somewhere it would all come pulling out, i.e. those cheaper commercially made quilts/comforters that end up with the plastic threads waving in the air.

I use the clear in the bobbin as well as the top. My machine does a better stitch with it in the bobbin.

I only use it in the top, not the bobbin. I have one quilt that is very densely quilted with it, and since it is the cat-magnet, it has been washed almost weekly for the past 8-9 years and is still perfect. No problems.

I use BOTTOM LINE. it is a fine thread that just melts into the back of the quilt. Used to use monofiliment but after using Bottom Line I wouldn't go back to it. It comes in large, regular spools or comes.

I was watching Karen Buckleys machine applique DVD this weekend and she said that if you use the monofilament thread in the bobbin that most machines do better with only filling the bobbin half way, especially if using plastic bobbins. I haven't tried it yet so we shall see
