I donate to some of the senior centers or the shelters....the residents there do enjoy the magazines, even if they are not quilters.

I keep mine in those cardboard magazine holders, but I really like the idea of going through them and pulling out the ones I want to make and put them in sheet protectors and notebooks. Good project for a snowy day.

When someone tells me they would like to learn to make quilts, I just give them a few of the ones I won't be keeping.

Since the magazines are so expensive, even on subscription, I have let mine lapse and instead buy books. I can often find books on sale, and they are nothing but designs and how-to's. I feel that dollar for dollar, I get better value from books.

I will take the free trial issue from time to time (maybe once a year) to see if I still feel that way, and so far, I have not been moved to continue the subscription.

I started going through mine and tear out and place in binders in plastic sheets. This year I have one graddaughter somewhat interested so will have her go through with me. Lord knows I do not want to leave this mess for someone else. lol :) I rally do not buy many magazine's these days as so many FREE quilt patterns on line.

I, too, have a lot of magazines that I tear up and file into sleeves and into 3-ring binders. One thing I think that justifies the expense and paper involved is this: patterns out here cost about $9-10 (a few even higher). Most magazines have 5-10+ patterns in them, so a magazine is actually worth much more than the subscription price. I try to keep only the patterns I think I will use, but like others have said, I'd have to live to be 500 years old to make all these quilts! But how nice it is when I'm looking for a Christmas project to open my holiday binder and have many choices!

I had the same problem (and that applies to quilt books too!). For the magazines, I tear out any pattern that I think I might make or I really like and put in plastic sleeves in a three ring notebook, by topic. Then I usually pass on the rest of the magazine to my DIL. For books - if I don't think I would use the book, I will then donate the books to my quilt guild for the raffle table or the library. Just can't bring myself to tear patterns out of a book! I figure, with the magazines, I bought them - they are mine to do with as I wish and salvaging one or more patterns justifies what I paid for the magazine.

I love all kinds of magazines, so they do pile up on me. When the pile next to 'my chair' in the living room gets too tall I sort through them, some I keep, but most I pass on to friends who can't afford them. Soothes my guilty concious for spending and not keeping by doing something good for someone else when I pass it on.
