My Featherweight came with the name Abigail. My "new" 1924 Singer 128 has the name Lillian, since I found out from the woman who gave her to me that it belonged to her grandmother who's name was Lillian. My 301 should be called Izzy because he made the beautiful desk in which she lives. I have a Lydia and a Ken, but my other machines are just White, Bernina and Serger.

My first featherweight, a 1936, is named Matilda for my grandmother. My second one, another 1936, is Emma after a dear elderly sewing friend who passed shortly before I bought her. My 1923 treadle is named after my BQFF's husband's mother Amelia, her first and only other owner. I feel like I was adopted when I inherited her. I love to treadle! I've never felt a need to name newer machines (and I have quite a few of those ).

I am certainly in the minority in this thread, but I have never named anything inanimate. I had a friend who even named a floor lamp! (She called it (him?) grandfather.)

I read the vintage machine threads and see that a great many people name their machines, but it's not my thing.

My Elna and other DSM aren't named (unless you count the Singer which gets called "that d!?n machine" when I'm having tension problems--but my Gammill is "BB"as in"Bigger than a Buick"--what my son said when we first moved it into the basement--and his 68 Buick parts out!

My 1990 Bernina 1130 is named Athena in fond remembrance of my 1976 Singer Athena2000, in whose cabinet she now resides. I also have a Brother 770 that I just call the Little Brother.

I bought a small sewing machine at IKEA and I call it Ike. I also call it my modern version of a feather weight.

I've only named a few of mine. Janome 6600 is Dream as she is my Dream machine, My mothers Singer I inherited is Momma when I sit to sew on her I say OK Momma what are we going to sew together today? Brother Treadle my daughter bought me is Mo, that's my daughters nickname, Janome Jem is Tiff, she's the one my Grand daughter uses & her name is Tiffanie and my old Singer my ex bought me years ago is Old Faithful. And I have a used old Tin Lizzie (don't know how to use yet) is of course Lizzie. The rest aren't named.
