I started paper piecing before I really knew how to quilt. I didn't know it was supposed to be hard. I loved it and have never looked back. I like the way your points always turn out good, at least almost always.

I have to look up how to do it each time I start a new PP project. Hopefully, soon I will remember what to do.

I love to paper piece. I LOVE not having to worry about precise rotary cutting and a 1/4 seam. It came in handy during bilateral cataract surgery when i was a one eyed wonder between surgeries! lol
The trick is to do one block over and over, it becomes second nature then. I also precut the pieces I need -- it's a rough cut to be sure. Alex Anderson's paper piecing book is great for explaining this.

I hated my first experience of PPing. It took me hours to make 10 very simple identical 3" blocks. I probably would not have tried it ever again except that a dying friend wanted a Mariner's compass. 2 days later I was hooked and the compass was delivered. I had a DVR of Simply Quilts to refer back to as I worked. I'll bet you can find a good tut or 15 on youtube. Once you have a successful experience, you will love it. the members of my guild are about equally divided between those who absolutely refuse to do any PPing and those who love doing it.

I have Peggy Martin's Craftsy class Strip Paper Piecing. PP seemed very intimidating to me until I read the description of her class. I thought "well I can play it over and over, maybe with this method I can learn." It was so much easier than I thought, her teaching is clear, reassuring, she builds your self confidence and the projects are beautiful. After watching Carol Doak on the Quilt Show I tried her DVD and book and made a table topper. I think the keys for me are the ability to watch the instruction as many times as I need to, taking my time and not working on it when I'm tired or stressed. Love it!

I took a paper piecing class about 10 years ago and was so stress out that I told the teacher I would not be back. I eventually threw the project away.

I have yet to try but it is on my "Bucket List". I'm not sure I'd like ripping off all the paper but I have a dog who would love to help.

I bet PP is one of those 'Left Brain, Right Brain' things that some people are able to do with expert ease while others struggle through it and become skilled and some of us (me) become rotary cutter wielding maniacs.
