I have a mental block for some reason. I can't for the life of me remember how to cute a piece of stripped fabric on a true diagonal? Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thank's, Miss Fay.

I would fold the end over at a 45* angle and cut along it. tried googling but haven't found a clear description for you yet.

I use my 5" x 24" ruler that has the 45 degree marking on it and my marked cutting mat. Lay the fabric selvedge along a straight line of your mat, then lay the 45 degree line of your acrylic ruler along that same edge. The long edge of the ruler will now be laying at a 45 degree angle.

I would align the ruler's 45 degree mark with a stripe of the fabric rather than with the selvage, in case the fabric is not printed quite straight. I would also try to cut only one layer at a time, since it could be really hard to fold and still keep the stripes aligned.

McCall's quilting web site has an excellent video for making diagonal or bias cut binding. Maybe that would be helpful. I used for a striped bias binding and it worked so well.

I think Jenny Doan also has a Tute for making bias binding if this is what you are doing.

Yes, definitely what Dunster said. In this case, the direction of the stripe should overrule the direction of the grain.
