Last month I saw my mother in Florida ans she gave me her featherweight.I packed the featherweight case in another suitcase and it was a carryon. I was stopped and the bag was searched. They not only opened the suitcase but also the machine case and swabbed the featherweight !!! Fortunately the airport security man knew about featherweights and was extremely gentle.

Taking your machine along so that you get lots of "work" done?

i bought a great bag to bring my machine on as a carry on - it was called machine on wheels from tutto and it is small enough to be considered a carry on bag - I wouldn't bring the machine if i couldn't carry it on. I bought it online at Joann's with a 50% off coupon and that saved me about $70.

I have a Pfaff 7570 and have taken it on as a carry-on. I have a roller bag that it fits in, and I pack it well with fabric.

Security searched it pretty thoroughly and acted as if I was doing something wrong. He even went so far as to suggest I check it. I told him in no uncertain terms that the machine was too expensive to risk checking.

Just a heads up... there may be room for it in the closet at the front of the plane, but that is reserved for wheel chairs, car seats and larger items of that nature.

So be sure it can fit in the overhead just in case  or you will have to check it if the closet is full.

This is according to 3 different airlines that I have called in the past :D:D:D

I just returned from my second trip to Texas in one month and both times I carried my machine in my carry-on suitcase. One out of the four times I went through security they asked me to take it out but even then they let it pass through after looking at it. I say take it with you. I had lots of fun sewing on both trips and it was worth lugging in my carry-on.
