I don't remember who it was, but someone on this board showed how they mark quilts with school chalk. They used an eye makeup sharpener to get a point. I finally got around to trying this.. and it is awesome! I do break the tip that I sharpen on a lot, but as cheap as the chalk is that is no big deal. Now I just have to find the best and cheapest school chalk to buy

There are a few of us who love the great chalk way. I find it so easy to get out, and as you said, it is so inexpensive! I tried blue once, and as Tartan said it is a monster.

Yes, stick to white. I used BLUE Clover powered chalk and it has never come completely off.

I use a scrap of fusible fleece (the rough side) to remove the chalk. Works great

save the shavings that you are sharpening ....put in the end of an old sock and you can ''pounce it '' as well

I've been using school chalk forever, as I used when I had a wedding dress business, as it was easy to remove and it never left a mark, when working with wedding and bridesmaid dresses made using very expensive fabrics and also hand embellishments it had to be something that you knew you could remove. A baby toothbrush which is very soft is good for brushing away the marks.

I just had the same thing happen when I used a blue chalk. It was a gift so I was really disappointed and frustrated that I couldn't get the chalk out.
