    Default Thinking ahead....about borders

I am slowly getting my Bargello top put together (pattern called Illusion) and am thinking about borders as I labor through all the small details.

The pattern suggests a small inner green border and a black outer border. I was planning on having a light blue inner border and a deep purple outer border, but the more I get into this pattern, I think maybe I should have the outer border black. I think it might make the black background just look "more right."

Now, I know that I won't be able to really tell until I have the center of this finished, but that is probably a week away, and I have to think about something as I sew...so my question is, which way would you lean....outer black border or outer deep purple border. I may need to go buy more black if that is the way I go...

    Thanks for any input.

i agree with the last border being black. i don't think i'd do a light blue first border since the main part reads bold. if you choose an inner border, i'd go with purple. great progress.

I like the idea of the deep green as the inner border since none of it comes to the edge. I think deep purple would look awesome but I'm not a huge fan of solid black borders. The good thing is borders are easy to lay beside the quilt when the body is finished and compare. Your progress so far is amazing! It's going to be gorgeous whatever you choose.

No matter what you choose. This is a beautiful quilt. Great work!

Have you considered using the dark gold, then the black for your borders?
"Audition" several combinations. You'll know which makes your eye happy.

Start auditioning. Try all of the colors in the quilt in all combinations.

I love that neon blue in the quilt and wondering if that would good as the outer border with a narrow inner border of black.

Dina, do you need a border??? If so, use black. You don't want anything distracting from your lovely piecing.

Dina - this is absolutely stunning. I have no opinion on borders, just wanting to compliment you on your work and color choices.

Thanks, everyone. I know it is really too early to select borders, but I sure appreciate all the input. I am very anxious to get this center done and then figure the borders out. I will try all the suggestions, probably plus others.

    Again, thanks.
