Not sure about the ink...Iwent to the Dollar Tree two weeks ago and bought foam core board..You can cut it into four pieces and it works great for fabric....

I just got some of the boards from JoAnnes that they throw away and cut them 11 1/2" tall and they work wonderful have them all lined up in my closet and they didn't cost anything.

Boy do I understand this -but my recycle gene figures if they can be re-used at least they won't be in the landfills for future generations to take care of.

Get in touch with the candidate or party chairman and ASK about recycling the signs. (Winners may be more amenable.

Score and fold them so the printing is on the inside.

I use stiff card stock that is acid free 12 X 12 folded in half, and they work for me and soo much cheaper, I probably have more that 300 of them, I also wrap the fat quarters, so all of my fabric fits and is displayed nicely. They provide enough stiffness to sit vertically on the shelf, better when shelf is full, but I don't find that as a problem. I wouldn't wrap my fabric on anything that isn't acid free.
