First off I am not a fan of poly batting but am in need of a summer weight batting with as LITTLE loft as possible. I do use Warm and Natural but still wanted something lighter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I like the warm and natural or warm and white but then I generally use that for everything. If you want a lightweight filler, you coud try flannel.

Quilter's Dream thinnest cotton batting is very thin. I think it's Request weight. If that's still too heavy I'd just use a thin flannel.

Silk and wool both breath very well, are lightweight and, believe it or not, cool to sleep under when it's warm. I agree that the Quilters Dream "request" weight is a good option as well.

In the southern states of the US, the summer quilts used to be only a top and backing. I do not know if they were actually quilted together or were tied. That might bear some research.

You could use flannel, or, for something even lighter, just the top piecing and the backing. You could just tack the with a few stitches, either by hand or machine. Or tie it. Actual design quilting wouldn't show because there isn't anything to puff it up, and isn't really necessary.

This is one of my favorites too. Just enough loft to show of your quilting without looking comforter lofty. I too am a big fan of the wool bat for all around use.
