    Default What's the best muslin?

When I shop for muslin I get so confused. I usually use tone on tone but sometimes muslin is the right thing and they are all so different. I don't like pure white and the off whites are so different from each other. I found the perfect color to use with an old fashioned block but when I washed it I hated how much it shrunk and the wrinkles won't iron out. I need one that will hold up well. So where do you buy your muslin? Or what is the best brand name for a good quality muslin?

I've never been disappointed with Kona Premium. I use the natural color and use it for backgrounds and backing.

A good medium weight tightly woven muslin is the best. Stay away from the thin loose weave ones. ( although most will hold up). If the weave is loose you will get a lot of shrinkage while that tightens up. All muslin shrinks. To lessen the wrinkling remove from the dryer when still slightly damp and iron dry. Sizing also works/helps a lot when the wrinkles seem set in.

I love the premium muslins. Kaufman, Legacy, Southern Belle. They are all 200 count. Wash up nicely, and they don't wrinkle as badly. I can get the Southern Belle through ebay in various size lengths of 45" wide that work out to $3.50/yd. The seller is Franks11. I've bought from there a few times and always been happy with my muslin.

I too only buy the 200 thread count muslin, haven't had any problems using it.

I have had good luck with Legacy or RocLon. I buy from JoAnn's with my 50% coupons. It is all I use for backings anymore. I buy the 120" wide and prewash/preshrink.

I've had problems with various muslins I've tried. Shrinkage, quality and a few other things. Since muslin is close to the same price as solids. I switched to a good solid white. I prefer Northcott solids but have used Moda and Kona also.

I really love Premium Legacy from joann's I love the way it washes and dries. I use it for my embroidery all the time. The quality is really nice

When I first started quilting I used muslin a lot but now seldom use it unless it's for craft sewing. I like Roc Lon permanent press muslin. It doesn't shrink and has nice body and feel.
