This thread is VERY interesting!! The responses are all over the place.

OK, only my longarn has a name - "Beth" - because it was SUPPOSED to be a Tin Lizzie (Lizzie = Elizabeth = Beth). She actually is a Viking MegaQuilter 18x8 (same thing as a Tin Lizzie). My other sewing machines (Viking Designer I and a Singer serger) don't have names.

However, all our vehicles and tractors have names:
    Vehicles:
    Ford F350 is (understandably) Ford
Camaro is Red (and she is)
Ugly Alice and Betty are both Saturns

    Tractors:
Massey Ferguson (biggest one) Big Mama
MF 274 is Mike (the name of the guy we bought it from)
    MF 165 is Granny
1943 Farm All Super A is Matilda
and a little yard tractor/lawnmower is Ernie (the name of the guy who gave it to us, dead as a door-nail - we fixed it, runs good)

My Viking Lily is named "Belle" after my Grandma and it was also my Mom's middle name.

My Janome 7700 is big red, my Janome 3160 is pretty baby. I had to downsize and got rid of the rest of my machines (sigh).

It never occurred to me to name my sewing machines until I read of someone else doing it; then it seemed a fun idea.

Pfaff 1473CD & Pfaff 360 are Ilsa and Rick because I love the film "Casablanca".
Singer 201-2--Claire (Clara): for my grandmother who was a talented seamstress.
Singer 15-91--Amelia: for my mom's best friend who sewed for me.
    Singer 221--Mary: sweet and simple.
White FR (1909)--Juniper: variation of Junipero Serra, founder of California missions; it's in a mission-style cabinet.
Improved "The Eldredge" B--Frances: Purchased on the feast day of St. Francis de Sales, one of my favorite saints.
    U.S. Blind Stitch--Bentley: I like the name.
BabyLock Imagine overlock--Gracie: for the maid in Anne Perry's books.

My Featherweight is Lil Bit, my Juki is Nellie (as in whoa Nellie cause it sews so fast) and the Bernette is Bernie. I call hubby's truck the rolling biscuit due to his eating breakfast on his drive to work.

I have 7 featherweights...named them all but I can't remember their names right now...what a terrible mom I am...I have it written down somewhere but names have escaped me..lol... Can only remember 2 of them...

    1. Georgina...because I bought it in town of Georgina, Lake Simcoe
    2. Rocky...born in 1958, a hard to find year I was told...same year as me...so named after me too
    3. ?
    4.?
    5.?
    6.?
    7.?

and one featherweight 222 from England so I named her Elizabeth

my "real" machines don't have names...except for my Longarm, which is named Lucey...APQS named her...she has it written on her, so I didn't want to traumatize her and change her name upon adoption so I kept it...

I don't name machines and have always thought the practice was rather silly (sorry!). I work with lots of people teaching them in fitness classes, and I strain my memory and brain trying to learn and remember each and every one of their first names. I don't see the point in doing this for my machines too and overloading my circuits! I have over a dozen machines. Names like "Juki" and "Singer 301" make more sense to me.
