The graduate has more of a stained glass look to it than the girl. Maybe just say portrait quilts?

Do any of you have any pics of these "stained glass" portrait quilts? I'm probably the only one who is not familiar with them.

I prefer the second one as I think it explains the title more clearly. The child is adorabe and when I first saw the first one, I wondered why you cut off the top left. when Isaw the second, it was "Oh, now I see"

No 2 is it. Seems smoother somehow. With the first one, it takes the eye a few seconds to catch up to what is happening. Lovely though. Good luck with the book

Book name - - since the technique is for any object, not just portraits, I would suggest using just the name "Silhouettes". One of the definitions of Silhouettes is: Shadowed contour – an outline of somebody of something filled in with black or a dark color on a light background, especially when done as a likeness or work of art.

With all the suggestions you are getting, it is probably more difficult for you to come up with a title and book cover than the technique that the book will be all about.
