Yay! So glad I could be in the swap this month after all - Thank you Krystyna! I have your package ready to go with this month's Amish DQ and the QAYG block for your soldier friend. I'm including an American Quilter magazine with a really interesting article about "Pot Holder Quilts" made for Civil War soldiers. It's a lot like what you are doing for your friend. They also had an article about Broderie Perse quilting, something I had never hear of until KrisB talked about it on this swap.

You know how you wash big quilts before gifting, so they will look cuddlier? This is not such a good idea with doll quilts. Of course I had to find out the hard way on your quilt. It does look cuddly, but also a bit wonkier. I still like it though and hope you do too!

Just sent Buslady a PM. This is my first doll quilt swap and I am so excited. I am actually in Sipshewana IN today in the middle of Amish country. This trip and the craft festival in Napannee are my birthday gift for this year. Talk about timing! I have been able to purchase my fabric here and can't wait to get started when I get home!

Question of the day: does anyone here know what is the premise or theme behind WHY amish quilts are made with these colors (or lack of color black)? Are they any pattern or more often certain ones? I checked out a bunch yesterday and they seemed to use a lot of blocks that were pointed. Is there a reason other than they are darned pretty and detailed with all those points? Curiosity makes me ask. I sure hope someone out here likes true red and blue and MAYBE a bright green or yellow... I have my block picked out. Wish me luck!
Elisabrat, I think that black is often a dominant color in Amish quilting. Here's a link about the fabrics used.

Have yall ever seen that commercial on TV where the family drags a quilt everywhere with them. They take it to the park, beach, etc... And in the final scene, you see the quilt hanging out the back of the car hatchback dragging on the ground. (IT WAS A QUILT MADE OUT OF SOLIDS.) Well, that sparked an interest in making a quilt of solids. (Which I haven't gotten around to yet.) It was either a commercial for detergent or A washer. I think.

So, there you go. I'm In, Pretty Please, Pick me. LOL, giggle.
Haven't seen that one. What was the product? I'll have to see if it was on YouTube
