Great quilt. I may have to 'steal' your idea.

Great quilt. I am working on a red, white, and blue quilt for "Quilts of Valor". They are given to a returning injured service man or woman. They have volunteer long arm quilters that will do the quilting. You have to make the top, supply the material for the back (the la quilter furnishes the batting) and when you get it back from the laq, you make a bag and label for the quilt, then send it to the organization. Oh, I forgot. You write a journal as you make the quilt, they say the recipients really enjoy that also.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. Please help yourself to my idea! The fabric is from 3+ years ago, so I haven't had much luck directing anyone to where I got it. Here's all the information I have:

It's really just one of those things that you search on various search engines until you find fabrics. I don't really have enough to make a kit of.

Please help yourself to the picture! I'd send you the Excel pattern if I still had it, but I lost it when my computer died :( I started with the center square (which it includes the red stripe on the fabric). The first row of black/green stars is 3 1/2" (all unfinished measurements), the tanks, flags, words, and camo are all 6 1/2". The 2nd star fabric border is 2 1/2". There's not a whole lot of fancy-ness, just start with square and keep adding borders :D

I'm happy to answer more questions - just let me know

My son was in the Navy as I mentioned before......and my dad was a career man in the Army.......Son was named for my dad and always wondered if he (dad) would have felt bad that son joined the Navy.......he definitely would not have cared.....a service man is a service man/woman and they are all servicing us.

I think that when I do get around to this quilt, I may just include both and then just might also include something from the Air Force...since hubby served with them...

I love it! Where did you get the fabric? I'd love to do one for my son, who's in the Army and has done 5 tours of duty in Iraq!

I own most of the fabric you have displayed, and have not read your whole thread, but what is that fabric, second to the last on the top and bottom? Did you show a close up?
Having asked, I will now go back and look <g> ...
thank you for your support for our military ... your thoughtfulness extends back many generations to the women who knitted socks for George Washington's Continental Army, gathered clothing and other supplies.
