I learned that lesson too. My old machine quit working and I changed to my newer machine. I had some extra material though and eventually made 2 quilts.

Put your smaller blocks in the center and adjust the sashing between the blocks to make it all fit. The blocks are beautiful!! :-D

That's a great idea, or maybe sew the smaller blocks together and add a border around them all and then attach the other squares...so in effect the smaller squares become a center panel.

maybe add "coping strips" to the blocks. Then square them up all to a slightly larger size than the larger blocks. the coping strip size will be different from block to block but with the sashing you have planned it will look great.

I have used coping strips on lotto blocks, that never seem to be the same size.

The book SETTING SOLUTIONS by Sharyn Craig shows this idea, plus lots of other ideas for working with blocks of different sizes. It's a great book that I keep going back to whenever I'm stuck and need some new inspirations.

Taking the 9 smaller blocks, putting them in the center of the quilt seems the best idea. Adding larger sashing around those blocks to accommodate the larger blocks on the outside rows would work. Could also put a small 1/2" border of a contrasting fabric around just those nine blocks.

I saw on "Simply Quilts" a while back that Alex said when this happens its Perfectly OK to add a small border on the too small blocks. I tried it and was very pleased too. Hope that you do not take them apart as it is a lot of work.
