Default Donny, an I Spy Quilt

I finished this "I Spy" quilt after having set it aside for awhile. When I was a very young, my parents decided they could expand our family of six through fostering. In a single emergency placement, they took in a sibling group of 3 in addition to the 3 of us biological kids. By the grace of God, my parents had six kids ages 1-9 for eleven months. Two of the sibs were boys, but only one was nice. His name was Donny. I decided to name this quilt after him.

Last night I took the quilt to my young friend who is a foster care social worker. She said the timing couldn't have been better. She had just, moments earlier, received a call for a sibling group of 4 needing emergency placement. This size seemed perfect for the toddler boy, and the pictures would provide something for the kindergarten boy to focus on.

The back is a cozy flannel. Many of you might recognize some 2.5" squares. Let me know!

The universe was calling for you to spread some joy to kids who need it. Blessings on you for having heard the call.

I plan to keep making quilts to donate to the Baltimore foster care system. I don't have time to make 3 more for this particular group. I am not a fast quilter. I could do large strips or big blocks quickly; that's about my only hope for speedy results.

I should say, I'm not sure if my friend will remain their case worker or if she was just there to receive the call and will assign the case elsewhere. I just don't know . Certainly could ask .
