What a great idea. I do use the pounce chalk method, have never tried this paper idea.

I've done something similar in the past, as I purchased a roll of tissue paper weight paper, and it made following a pattern much easier. I have also used pre-printed quilt borders on several quilts.

I did this on a quilt border but used my walking foot as it was a chain motif--I've used Golden Threads but my quilt shop recommended Stitch & Ditch Stabilizer which is also a thin paper and comes in a roll a little over 8" and the instructions say to put in the dryer on the fluff cycle and tumbling to remove any paper that didn't come out.
