Default My Steal Deal of a handmade Quilt ...

I happened across this quilt while cruising around E Bay. The lady who made this quilt is ninety and had to go into a home. Her family had this quilt sold at an estate auction, and the man who bought it sold it to me. It had never been used or washed and had spent it's life in a cedar chest. There were some staining from the chest on it and so I carefully treated it and washed it. All the staining came out, thank goodness. I haven't had the time to press it yet. But ladies this quilt is hand embroidered, hand quilted and huge! I was astounded at all of the lovely feathers and close cross hatching small stitches on this quilt. I am still in shock I was able to buy this quilt for just under a hundred dollars! What???!! I wish I knew a good appraiser to find out what it really is worth.

Beautiful. Quilts aren't worth what we think they are worth. There are appraisers that show up at many guild meetings.

Sorry about the poor picture. I had to spread this out onto the living room floor and take the pic from the stair landing. The dang sun wasn't cooperating either. But, oh well ... I might add this is not a stamped quilt. It was from what I can see, an original design.

WOW, what fabulous hand work, can't believe her family would have let an heirloom like that go! Lucky you!

Visit AQS(American Quilters Society) website for a list of certified appraisers in your state. Beautiful quilt.

Wow, what a lovely find. It's in great shape & I think you got it for a really good price.
Mine is much worse for wear, but it was used a lot before I packed it away. I cross-stitched mine back in the 70s. If memory serves, it was a Fingerhut kit that had the pattern stamped on it.

I can't imagine if I had a quilt my mother or grandmother made that I would ever let it go. Great find
