I'm sorry I wasn't clear. The free pattern is for the Trade Winds quilt. It uses 2 1/2" strips. I purchased the Judy Niemeyer paper piece pattern.

Thank you for the ironing board ideas. I am going to try adding several layers of batting to see if I can create a smooth surface for pressing. One pad and cover was not enough to do the trick.

You have no idea how much I appreciate your kind comments.

Beautiful quilt! Love the pond. I have seen those ironing boards before - can't remember when but it does ring a bell in my memory.

Thanks for sharing your quilt with us.

YOUR QUILTS ARE BEAUTIFUL!! I can't say which one I like best, and the pond is absolutely gorgeous. You must spend as much time in the garden as you do quilting.

The grooves are to allow steam condensation to drain away. Use a double or triple padding and you won't notice them. (too much)

Oh and just an idea for the ironing board- you could cut strips of batting to put between the ridges before putting a solid piece of batting over it. Good luck with it.
