I can relate to OCD meets scrappy as I'm also working on the Smith Mountain pattern. I didn't use scraps but I did go thru my scrap boxes for additional fabrics in the colors I was using....browns and blues. Thank goodness for a design wall as I put up all the center blocks for the star block, then started arranging the tri-rec sections around them, making sure not to have 2 of the same fabrics (very hard to do when you only used 13 fabrics), then and the corner sections (thank goodness they're in the opposite colored fabric), then took them off the design wall in the order I would stitch them together. Then put the other colored center block and did the same. I thought I was going to go nuts trying to get these blocks to come out with no fabrics the same. I did find where I goofed up with one of the center blocks for the star as I had the same fabric twice but I'm not going to change it now.

Love your colors. I had trouble getting my tri-recs to come together correctly. Think I didn't pay enough attention when cutting them out with the special rulers. Have learned my lesson now. Hopefully I can tweak them into working out as I surely don't want to have to start over on them. Don't have the fabrics any longer as I used them all up.

While I have 16 reads and 14 yellows involved, I'm not sure if it is truly scrappy as I went to my stash and cut a 6.5 inch strip and a 3.5 inch strip of each of the colors.

Snooze2978 - did you remember to cut the little nub off at the top of the star points - that really helps in getting the start point unit to fit together correctly - but it does take practice. I figure by the time I finish the 206th unit (stars plus borders), I should have that unit completely figured out. Some of my early star blocks area bit wonky.

I did manage to finish 5 more stars last night - but part way into the assembly process I realized that when I arranged the block pieces, I had the corners rotated 180 degrees - so had to rip out quite a few seams.

Movie of the night - end of Frozen and start of Percy Jackson. After Scouts tonight, I'll try to finish the remaining six yellow stars. Then hopefully this weekend I can start cutting red star points and the points for the borders.

    Cheers, K

I don't think the tri recs come out perfect no matter how careful I cut. The side pieces seem to be missing a corner of fabric where it joins large triangle. I cut those side pieces 1/2 inch larger then trim units. It helps a little.
