OMG, I just finally got it. Went back and re-read and saw that she had changed fabric mid-stream of her tutorial and that is what messed me up. I kept looking at the pictures getting more and more confused. I am going to make a small one to use as a hot plate or something just to try out.
I guess no batting is needed for the place mats being it ends up four layers. But I do like padded mats. Any thoughts?

I made a set of 6 of these for my DDIL. One side red, one side green, one side yellow flowered and the fourth side hot air balloons with a blue background for the grandkids. My DDIL and DS went crazy.
They are a bit tricky to get "just right" at the middle part, but after you do one or two and get the knack, they go fast.

When that happens to me, I just copy and paste to word. The pictures usually won't copy with the printed directions. So copy, paste the instructions, then copy picture and paste. Hope that helps.
