Default This Ugly Old Lady Wants To Work Hard

I bought a Singer 301 awhile ago. I shoved it in a corned of the shop and forgot it was around. Well, really I didn't want my 3 year old DGS Wilbur to get his hands on it and oil it... He likes to oil sewing machines. Anyway. I got it out today and started cleaning it. Do you notice any thing kinda different?

Do you see a black streak around the balance wheel?
Do you see black under the scratches and worn places?
The bottom plate is black. There is black chrome in a few places.
Anybody else seen one like that?

The pin scratches have black under them - the edge has black under it, too.

The machine has been well used. Who ever had it used it and loved it until they passed it on to someone who didn't know what they had. She was selling it so she could go to WM and buy a NEW sewing machine. I took it off her hands. It does have a lot of goo and a LOT of scratches. UGLY but she sure turns sweet. Speaking of turning here is her balance wheel stripe - black under there, too.

Under the lift bed doesn't seem to have black paint. At first I wondered if this one had been re-painted.

A repaint maybe?? But why? The color sure is Singer mocha tan. Strange. My tan 301 has no pin scratches at all.

I don't really see any black paint.

Aren't the bobbin winder tires black? That is usually where the black marks on the balance wheel come from.

This one has been well used. Look at the bobbin spool pin - that black on the worn place seems to be paint.
The inside and the bottom are Mocha - it had to have been repainted at the factory.

There is black on the out side of the hand wheel, too. The mocha paint is worn off - this machine has been very used but still wants to go.
