Default 99K stitch issue

hi all
I am getting my 99k handcrank running.. I cleaned it.. although it was really clean .. oiled it and started using it. I am adjusting the tension and have an issue. the top thread is not always catching the bottom one. so I get these big open spots.. and then it will stitch again. regretfully, the manual that came with it in in German. and I don't read German. I am looking for an English version online but wondered if anyone could point me to what the issue is. I tried looking on the board but there are a lot of posts to go thru..

thanks again

Melinda

That will probably fix it.
It's usually something minor like that.

amazing what an English manual does for you. the needle fixed the stitch issue and I know what all the little knobs are now. I can change stitch length and foot pressure. She sews beautifully. and I fixed another issue. when I got her, the plate over the bobbin was missing..bought another but it would just fall off. would not lock in .. so after looking thru the manual, I see the little spring lever . and it was so flat in the machine, I did not even notice it. I added some up tension on it so it catches the slide plate and now it stays in place nicely. I even was able to identify all the accessories with it.. I am a happy camper now. she runs quietly and sews great. not a missed stitch... thanks everyone..

Don't you love it when all this goodness comes together? I really like the 99 machines. So glad you got yours working properly. Manuals help a lot but not in German if you read in English, huh? Still, it's neat that you have that manual too.

My 201-2 was a $29.00 purchase supposedly because it would "not pickup a stitch." Threaded the needle correctly and have been using since.
