I wonder how much $218 would be if we bought it in a shop today. Japanese made stuff competed on price in those days, today it's technology and quality. The build on some vintage machines are in a different league compared to todays low and medium priced models, even if technology has moved forward. My experience is that most old sewing machines adapt very well to what we make in 2016, and worth the effort.
