Bernina 1530 Inspiration

Bernina 1530 Inspiration
I don't think this machine qualifies as antique or even vintage, but it was recently given to me by an elderly friend. She bought it new, it has hardly been used and is in excellent clean working condition so I am considering selling it - I already own two other Bernina machines. Is there a serial number or something similar that will tell me exactly how old it is? What would be a reasonable amount to ask for it?

My Bernina 1530 was produced in 1992. The serial number on mine is on the back right below the thread spool pins. My machine was a hand me down so I don't have all the original equipment but the machine has served me well for about 5 years. I love it.

I think a Bernina tech can look inside and can somehow tell how many 'hours' it has been used - a Bernina dealer told me once that it is recorded by the mother board - don't know how this is done - perhaps using specialized tools/reader?

I have a 1630 and it is 21 years and still awesome ..... great machines, the main difference between the two is the 1530 has a 5 mm reach and the 1630 a 7 mm reach .... they both 'read' the foot that you attach and set up internally for the chosen sewing requirements. These machines need to be cleaned of lint and oiled after every project or day of use .... and visit a real BERNINA specialist at least every other year. Never use canned air spray to remove lint on these babies.

I read somewhere that the first two digits of the serial number is code for the date of manufacture on Berninas. The first digit indicates the decade and the second the year, beginning with 1 for the 1970's, 2 for 80's, 3 for the 90's. So my machine which begins with 38 was manufactured in 1998, if this is true.
