Default Can someone post a picture of this hand crank screw

Hi all, my hand crank is missing the main screw that keeps it all together. I'm hoping someone can take a picture of theirs so I can see how what the heck it looks like so I can figure out how it works. It turns out that its no normal screw because once you start to crank with a normal screw in there it tightens up so much that you can't crank anymore. So, I'm hoping to see what it looks like and figure out a way to manufacture my own, As I can't find that part anywhere.

Well, I' think I've figured out what I have to do. I've gotten an M6 metric bolt and sheathed most of it with a nylon tube so the crank mechanism glides over it and doesn't grab it and twist it tight. Hard to explain, but its working so far.

Redsquirrel,

The actual size of the screw is M7x1.25 TP ( Well I'm positive about the M7 part anyway.) Sew Classic has those screws. They are repros but do work:

I suspect that Red was referring to the screw that hold the wooden handle on... that is the only one I can imagine that would be affected by the act of using it.

Mine are screwed to the right tension and then slightly peened on the backside.

Well, if Red is referring to the bolt that attaches the wooden handle to the crank then mine is a smooth bolt like thing with a rounded head. It's fitted through the crank and peened over.

Here's a pic:

This is when it was mounted on my 127.

Here is a close up of the rear of the handle and crank:

Mine was loose so I repeened it tighter. But if I had to use a bolt I'd put a nut with lock washer on the handle side and the same on the back side to chinch it up tight. Maybe a bit of LocTite as well.
Most hdwr stores have long bolts with smooth shanks. I'd try one of those if I could get it long enough.

Hope this helps.

Joe

Steve and Joe,

I suspect that she is referring to the screw that the main/ large gear rides on.

Hi Gang,
Sorry for the confusion, I'm reffering to the one that holds the main gear in place and acts as the axle to the whole mechanism.

Here is a pix of the screw from a Singer hand crank. I think it is a proprietary size. I tried and it is is not interchangeable with the one from a current Chinese made hand crank.

Thats exactly what I thought it might look like. Yep, improvisation it is. I may be able to get my dad to make me one with a metal sheath instead of a nylon one like I made. I will also have to shave off some of the screw as mine is a bit long and sticks out the other side.
