Sad as the decals look better than most of the machines I have.
Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.
I have such mixed feelings. That is very cool art on one hand, but on the other hand I still want to cry at the great sewing machines(and typewriters) being re purposed like that. Much better than tractors or lamps though. I couldn't resist leaving a comment but I was nice.Originally Posted by OurWorkbench

Interesting creations but yes very very sad - Some of the machines are hard to find now - just think in 5 to 15 years it will be worse and many lost Originally Posted by OurWorkbench

I had gone to a big antique market in the Fall and it was Steam Punk weekend - there were all kinds of "creations" which were interesting but sad to see - It bothered me to see the sewing machine parts used for "adornment" to enhance their costumes. Since then it seems that I have seen more - I wonder how long the "appeal" will hold some of the participants interests before they discard their creations or adornments and move on to again destroying something vintage to create something "new" or move on to a completely different interest.

My kids are part of that group - they've grown up with 'antiques' some of which were handed down through the family - however, they are now decorating with less fussy and sleeker designs. My DD has decorated her home with a few things from me but my DIL comes from a family that has a very European Modern style of decorating and wants absolutely nothing that is not sleek and new.
LOL!! I told my DD that she was in trouble because when we die the burden of our estate will be on her shoulders - hopefully she will make sure that everything goes to those who appreciate 'older' things.

My house is mid century modern circa 1964. Antiques look very out of place here.

I kind of like those sewing machine people. And since you can buy decals, who's to say they didn't take a horrid looking machine to use. Once cut up, repainted and re-decaled, it could look super nice.
Right now supply still outnumbers demand, so machines are cheap enough for people to buy and cut up with the hopes they'll be worth more that way. Sure, it would be neat if it was not the case, but then I probably would not have my collection. I use to collect something else, but I'm priced out of the market now as the demand has gone way up.
If I'm really lucky, when I get ready to liquidate my collection (in 10-20 years) it may be worth more than I paid for it. However, I'm not counting on it.
