Every black machine ever made is an "upholstery machine" and they're also good for canvas and thick leather.
Miriam, that ad is so typical it's a cliche. Good one, let's hope they don't need the $300 any time soon.

The real funny part is if the seller looks up the "howe" name and then actually believes their machine is from the late 1800's

This is more Tears than Giggles.
I stopped at a new Antique Mall place that recently opened. Walked past one booth and saw the card table with black edge and side (lots of stuff on top). I looked underneath - and sure enough a Singer Card Table!
So DH and I removed the stuff from the top, and what a dissappointment!
Someone had done a very, very good job permanently affixing the insert to the table. No way could this be "undone". The black spot was lint, not a blemish


Nice way to turn a $150 table into a $10 one. BTW - the table was used for display, not offered for sale. I could not tell if this was on older or newer "fix", and must admit it was very nicely done.
