This might have been a school machine. I had four such cabinets housing the Elnas in my classroom in the 80's. If so, this might explain the "rode hard and put up wet" condition, as well as the star marking under the handwheel. Have fun getting her working up to potential. I wish I still had the two Elna 62's. They were awesome smooth-running machines. I ditto a previous comment about one little thread in the bobbin case making them unhappy! I replaced them because students had such trouble with the birdsnests.

Thank you mo-rie for suggesting that my machine may have started it's life in a school. That may explain all of the misc scratches that are in the machine that are not just pin rash. On one of the cabinet legs is a long etching made by one of those serrated rollers that we used in the "old days" for marking patterns on fabric with transfer paper. Hmmm, I bet somewhere there are some initials on the cabinet. Will have to take a serious look at that.

I bought out some Singer 404s from a school. The machines were engraved with boy's names. I posted about it a while ago... http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t206688.html it was fun. I still have the machine...

RE. the Elna 69 SU, How do I find the Yahoo group for Elnas? I purchased one at the Habitat store - IN THE CABINET! Only paid $20! The cabinet has an electric lift that still works. The wood is a bit beat up but I'll fix that. The cabinet has drawers, thread holders, etc. Really sweet!!! The machine looks clean and will know for sure soon.

There doesn't appear to be an Elna group on Yahoo. There are a couple of embroidery machine groups that include Elna. To look for yourself, go to groups.yahoo.com and put your interest in the search box. If there are groups with your search term in their title it will show up.
