Congratulations! You are going to love that 301. I have one and it has quickly become my fave. That is a beautiful machine that you got.

What a lovely story! But you made it possible by contacting the seller after the sale. I have never thought of doing that. It might have gone to Goodwill, or (gasp!) the landfill if you hadn't followed your instincts to check on it. I really like my mocha 301, even though it needs either new brushes or further adjustments of the button controller. And trading one of your so lovely bags shows you deserved the consideration!
Thank you for sharing, I have fantasies of something similar with the 201 that I crave ;-) and this gives me hope that it could happen!

so lovely, congratulations!
I saw a 301 like yours this morning at an estate sale, $75.00 with the nice cabinet. I was going to put a note up on my NW quilters facebook page, but the people running the sale were rude beyond belief. Not to me, but I wouldn't send a friend to that sale for any amount of money (or sewing machine)

So great of a find! Lucky you as the 301 is a workhorse! Happy sewing and enjoy the beautiful cabinet and machine.

How fortunate you were to receive that great looking cabinet & machine from such a kind person. I know she will enjoy the beautiful hand woven tote bag that you gave her.

I played with my new gift tonight. It was just spotless inside and out. All I had to do to the outside was wipe it down with a cloth. This machine was maintained, there was no gunk or fuzz inside. I did not know the last time it was greased and oiled so I did that and started sewing. A little fussing with tension and it is sewing that beautiful straight stitch it is known for. Hopefully I'll find time this weekend to give the cabinet a little attention and bring it up into the house.

Can you believe it! I was given a 1952 black shortbed Singer 301 complete with attachments, the manual, zigzagger, buttonholer, and some Singer stitch guides and sewing class guide that I have never seen. We plugged it in and it just purred and sewed as straight as could be.

I am just in awe of this persons generosity. I've seen truly kind acts before but this has rocked me. The owner would not take money, but the offer of one of my tote bags I like to weave was accepted. These are the bags I make:

It really was not a fair trade - I am just in shock but that beautiful machine is really sitting on my kitchen table right now!
I have this same machine & cabinet...love the way it sews...made my granddaughters wedding quilt on it. It will sew through anything!

Show us what you do to the cabinet, please. I have one like that and haven't decided how to restore the black parts. Mine look like yours, kind of scuffed and worn.
