Actually the sad sacks are a good ones to try on. You can't go wrong on the one hand - on the other hand one with some shellac on it might be easier to do and come out better. Glenn has suggested spraying the same brand shellac on to build it just a bit. I have a couple I need to try that on. He should be done fishing soon... Well maybe...

It only came in gallons but I only bought one. I was lucky to get it though. It's not supposed to be available in California.

You might be able to use some of it to clean shiny parts. Some times it takes off the gunk. Some times other stuff works better sometimes the Naptha.

Do you go over the decals with the Naptha?

you want to be careful going over decals with anything - they can be brittle and not well protected by finish.

Terrific tutorial, thank you all for this. I may, but doubtful, attack my FW someday. It really needs a repaint.

I forgot about that machine - I popped it in a case and forgot to clean the rest of it. So today I finished it up. It is one sweet machine. I'm in Naples visiting the kids but I sat and redid that machine in the driveway. LOL

Beautiful! You did a wonderful job. I'm still working up my courage to try this. What I wonder is why not do the decal areas first to protect them during the rest of the process? I'm sure there's a reason, but was just curious.

I have a very beat up Featherweight extension bed that I replaced so I plan to practice on that. But it seems like a different finish than the really old japanned machines.

Congratulations on your fabulous work.
